Mixing & Mastering in Montreal

Mixing and mastering in Montreal from the engineer who records you — analog warmth, digital precision, and a final master that translates on earbuds, in the car and on every streaming platform.

The concept

Most studios hand your song down a line — one person records it, another mixes it, a mastering house you never meet signs it off. Here, one engineer carries it from the first take to the final master. Nothing gets lost in the hand-off, because there is no hand-off.

One engineer

The person who records you masters you

Jake tracks, mixes and masters every project himself — 20 years behind the console, a classically trained ear. The person who answers the phone is the one shaping your low end at 1 a.m. No juniors, no farmed-out mastering, no telephone game between rooms. The song that leaves is the song you heard in your head.

The chain

Analog warmth, digital precision

Mix in the box for total recall, or push it through the console and outboard for the weight and glue software still can't fake. You get both worlds on the same session — the surgical control of digital and the character of real hardware, used where each one actually helps the song.

The result

Made to translate everywhere

A master isn't just louder — it's balanced to hold up wherever it's played. We reference on earbuds, monitors and a phone speaker, and set loudness for how Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube actually normalize. It lands full and clear on the club system and on the cheap headphones on the bus.

What mixing and mastering deliver

Loudness

Set to compete on streaming without getting squashed — full and upfront, never fatiguing.

Tonal balance

Lows, mids and highs sitting right, so nothing is muddy, harsh or missing on any system.

Stereo image

Width and depth that make the record feel big, while the vocal and low end stay locked to the centre.

Dynamics & glue

The mix moving and breathing as one piece, not a pile of separate tracks fighting each other.

Clean edits

Tuning, timing, breaths and fades handled so the ear only ever hears the performance.

Every format

Delivered for streaming, CD and video — the right file, at the right level, for wherever it's going.

From your session to the master

  1. 01

Track it — or send it

Record vocals and instruments at the studio, or send us your stems or a rough mix from wherever you work. Either way, the song lands on the same desk.

  2. 02

    Edit & comp

The best takes comped together, tuning and timing tightened, breaths and noise cleaned — so the mix starts from a performance, not a repair job.

  3. 03

    Mix

Balance, space and movement built in the box or through the console, until every element has its place and the song hits the way it should.

  4. 04

    Master

Loudness, tone and glue set for streaming — the final polish that makes it sound like a record, not a bounce.

  5. 05

    Delivered

Every format you need, at the right level, with revisions included until it's right. The song leaves finished.

Frequently asked questions

Can you master a song I recorded somewhere else?
Yes. Send us your stems or a stereo mix and we'll mix and/or master it here — you don't have to have tracked at the studio to book mixing or mastering.
What do you need from me to start?
For a mix, your session stems or multitracks exported cleanly. For mastering only, a stereo mix with a little headroom. A reference track or two helps us aim at the sound you want.
How many revisions do I get?
Revisions are included — we work on it until it sits right, within the scope we agree on up front. You won't get nickel-and-dimed for a tweak.
What's the turnaround?
It depends on the song count and how booked we are, but we'll give you a realistic date when you book — and we hold to it.
Do you mix in the box or on a console?
Both, whichever serves the song. Digital for total recall and precision, real hardware for weight and character — often the same mix uses both.
Where are you located?
Fly Away is in Saint-Henri, Montreal. Sessions are by appointment. We're fully bilingual — you'll be looked after in French or English.
